The Nintendo 64 literally added a new dimension to all of Nintendo’s iconic franchises, except for Metroid. Nintendo wanted Rare to work on Metroid 64, turned down the offer, going on to make the suspiciously Metroid-like Jet Force Gemini instead. Metroid creator Yoshio Sakamoto didn’t want to work on it either because he had doubts about the console’s controller. As a result, all we have are screenshots from a prototype created by Toru Osawa.
